Tal Block

TAL Block (3370-3) petroleum exploration license was awarded on Feb 11, 1999 to MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Co.B.V. along with Oil and Gas Development Company limited (OGDCL) Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) over an area of 4643.48 SQ KM. Subsequently, consortium was joined by Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) on October 8, 2001.

The license spreads over the area of districts Kohat, Karak, Hangu of KPK province and some areas of North Waziristan and Orakzai agencies of FATA. MOL Pakistan owns 10.5264% exploration & 8.4210% production phase working interests as an operator of TAL block and has nine successive discoveries to its credit. The first discovery was made at Manzalai-1 exploratory well in December 2002 whereas the second discovery was at Makori-1 exploratory well in January 2005. After Extended Well Testing (EWT) at Manzalai, and Makori discoveries, commerciality was declared on March 24, 2006 and September 30, 2009 respectively. Government of Pakistan granted Development & Production Lease over Manzalai structure (382.89 sq KM) on January 11, 2007 for a period of 25 years while D & P Lease over Makori structure (50.6 sq KM) was granted by Government of Pakistan on April 16, 2012 for a period of 23 years. The third and fourth discovery of hydrocarbons was made at Mami-Khel-1 and Maramzai-1 exploratory wells on March 19, 2008 and October 13, 2009 respectively. The fifth discovery was made at Makori East on May 25, 2011. After its EWT, commerciality was declared on December 13, 2012 and its Development & Production Lease over (30.66 Sq. Kms) was granted on October 09, 2013 for a period of 25 years. The sixth discovery from the TAL block was of Tolanj X-1 exploratory well on June 02, 2011 and the well was completed in mid of 2011. The seventh discovery from the block was of Mardankhel-1 on March 26, 2015. D & P Lease over Mamikhel and Maramzai were granted in 2016. The TAL JV has recently made two consecutive discoveries, namely Makori deep and Tolanj West, which have increased the total number of discoveries in TAL block to nine. TAL block contributes in production of 511 MT/d of LPG, 21,200 BPD of Oil and 290 MMScfd of Gas.
